How many young drivers are involved in fatal car crashes?

When it comes to motor vehicle wrecks, there are an array of issues that drivers may have to consider at some point. In San Francisco, and all over California, these crashes take place for countless reasons, such as poor weather conditions, inattentiveness and intoxication, to name just a few. Furthermore, there are different factors that may play a role in a traffic accident, such as a driver’s age.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that in 2015, six people between 16 and 19 years old passed away each day due to injuries they suffered in a traffic accident, on average. Among people in this age group, there were more than 2,300 fatalities throughout the year and over 221,000 were hurt.

On top of the loss of life, traffic accidents can also leave young people with serious injuries. In fact, those aged 16 to 19 years old made up 11 percent of the overall traffic accident injury costs in the U.S. during 2013. Moreover, people in this age group only made up 7 percent of the population.

For young drivers as well as passengers, motor vehicle accidents can complicate their lives or even destroy their futures. Car crashes can leave a significant physical, financial and emotional toll on victims and interfere with their daily life. For example, they may struggle in school following a serious car wreck. As a result, those who are hurt or lose a loved one in a car accident should take a careful look at any options that are available to them as they try to recover.
