Serious sports injuries that children can suffer

Kids love to be active. As their parents, you want to do everything you can to ensure that they are entertained and getting enough exercise. While engaging in sports and active hobbies is a great way to spend weekends and vacations, all sporting activities come with danger. It is quite common for children to suffer serious injuries as a result.

If your child does become injured during a sporting activity, it is important that you know your rights. If you have put your trust in a certain company and felt it was their responsibility to keep your child safe, it can be heartbreaking to know that they failed in their duty. Catastrophic injuries can often happen at ski schools, bounce houses or adventure playgrounds, and many families become faced with a heavy financial burden when it comes to medical costs.

It is vital that you consider the nature of your child's injury and evaluate whether the injury could have and should have been reasonably prevented by the company that was hosting the activity. In order to have a successful claim, negligence on behalf of the other party must be proven. This negligence could be in the form of giving incorrect instruction, or providing faulty equipment. The following are some of the most common sports injuries suffered by children.

Patellofemoral Syndrome

When a child sustains a fall, particularly from height, and falls directly on his or her kneecaps, Patellofemoral Syndrome can result. This condition is caused by the swelling of the kneecaps, and can lead to an overall muscle imbalance that can take a long time to correct if not treated immediately.

ACL Tear

This is tear or strain of one of the key ligaments of the knee, the anterior cruciate ligament. Spraining this, which can occur in many different situations, including on trampolines, or when making certain sudden movements, can completely affect the balance and may require an operation.

If your child has suffered a serious injury as a result of engaging in a sporting activity that you believe was negligent toward safety, it is important to take action in order to have the chance of recouping your medical costs.
