Impairment suspected in car accident that kills 2 in California

The presence of impairment can have a substantial impact on a person's ability to safely operate a vehicle. Those who drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs run the risk of creating an unfortunate scenario that could place the safety of everyone close by in harm's way. A recent car accident involving a suspected drunk driver has reportedly claimed the lives of two individuals in California.

Authorities say they received reports of the crash on a recent Sunday morning. Initial investigations indicate that the accident took place after the driver of an eastbound car suddenly drifted across the median and into oncoming lanes. The car proceeded to collide head-on with a westbound vehicle soon thereafter.

Police say that the drivers of both vehicles suffered fatal injuries and were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. They have also advised that they were forced to close the road for several hours while an investigation into the incident was underway. While many of the details surrounding this investigation remain unclear, authorities did state that impairment appears to have been a contributing factor.

Losing a loved one in a car accident involving a drunk driver can be a difficult thing to accept. Those who suffer such loss and wish to exercise their rights to seek accountability in civil court could benefit from retaining the services of an attorney for assistance in navigating the process. An attorney can examine the incident and assist a client in California in pursuing the full amount of restitution entitled through a claim against the party deemed at fault.
