Spinal injuries are always life changing

Spinal cord injuries are among the most severe bodily injury one can suffer and still survive. They are often said to be “life changing,” but few who have experienced such an injury can imagine just how thoroughly such an injury restructures your life. In many cases, your legs are exchanged for a set of wheels and you quickly become an architectural critic of buildings that have not been upgraded to meet the accessibility standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Recently a fundraiser was held for an 8-year-old girl who suffered a spinal cord injury in a car crash caused by a drunk driver. The organizers of the event were hoping to raise money to help the family afford therapy session for the girl. They also have a long-term goal of raising enough money that would allow the family to buy a home that had wide hallways and doors and would allow her to navigate throughout the house in her wheelchair.

She was injured by a drunk driver, and car crashes are a frequent cause of spinal cord injuries. The horrific forces that act on a body during a severe crash can easily damage or destroy your vertebrae and the spinal cord. While modern vehicles are much better at protecting occupants, they cannot protect from all crashes.

When dealing with the aftermath of such a traumatic event, you want experienced legal professionals to assist, as you could be left emotionally overwhelmed and unable to effectively deal with offers of settlement by insurance companies and their lawyers. You want your attorneys to be experienced with catastrophic injury settlements, to ensure you receive adequate compensation, both for your recovery and for the life-long challenges you and your family will face.
