What to do if your child is injured because of bullying

As a parent, it is heartbreaking to find out your child has been bullied in school. You have spent all these years caring for your child and ensuring no harm comes their way, but such incidents can still occur. How do you cope with the aftermath of the situation?

If your child has suffered personal injuries due to bullying, how can you seek liability against the people who may have directly or indirectly caused it?

Your child comes first

Before anything else, it is vital that you address your child’s injuries and health first. Ensure they get the best care and treatment available. If you feel your child’s school counselor’s support is inadequate, you may consider engaging an independent counselor. Additionally, it can be beneficial to talk to your child and reassure them that you are there for them and willing to listen whenever they are ready to speak.

Bullying can be a harrowing experience, and your child needs to heal and recover – psychologically, physically and mentally. If warranted for your child’s safety, you may consider moving them to a different school altogether.

Seek justice legally

While seeking immediate vengeance and accountability outside of court and law may be tempting, such actions can complicate your situation and potentially expose you to legal repercussions.

In these cases, it is best to remain calm and let the law handle the incident. Even going on a social media barrage is ill-advised, as this can also hinder your case.

Instead, consider seeking legal counsel and letting the legal process take its proper course. Depending on the circumstances and evidence, both the school and the bully may be liable for the personal injuries your child has suffered in school grounds.
